Skateboard History

The Creation

Skateboarding first began in the decade of 1950, when throughout California surfers had no waves to surf on flat days. And so having no waves to surf they began to try surfing the streets, in crazy ways. It is not known who was the first person to make a board, however it appears that not one single person came up with the idea of skating, it is believed that several people came up with the same idea at the same time. Various people claimed to have been the first inventor of the skateboard, but nothing has been proved until now, and probably wont ever be. Skateboarding remains a strange and crazy invention of the moment.

The first skateboarders began the idea by surfing wooden boxes or boards with roller skate wheels fastened on the bottom down hills. Since it was not a functional skateboard it was almost certain that if u tried u would get hurt, for the skateboard provided no safety or control. As it was a sport in the process of being created any crazy and dumb idea went, if one had the courage to try it counted as skating,  and so through time skateboards began to evolve and become better. Soon the boxes were substituted by planks, and soon the companies saw a business in skateboarding, and began making decks of pressed layers of wood, quite like the skateboard decks of today. At this time period skate boarding was seen as a hobby after surfing or a substitution for surfing on flat sea days.
